Financial Curling League Rules
Welcome to the Financial Curling League Rules page. Here you will find all the essential information you need to know before joining our social league. We have laid out the guidelines to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all participants.

Know The House Rules
All teams are expected to familiarize themselves with the following guidelines to ensure fair and competitive play throughout the season.
Rules
Hammer and Rock Selection
The hammer (last rock advantage) will be determined by a coin toss between the thirds prior to the game.
Teams may choose rock colors freely; there are no league-specific rules on color selection.
Game Duration
All games are scheduled for eight ends.
A team may concede before eight ends if the point differential justifies it.
Time limits may apply based on Callie Club scheduling:
-if another draw follows: a two-hour limit will be enforced.
-if no draw follows: the game will continue until all eight ends are completed.
Free Guard Zone
The league observes the four-rock Free Guard Rule:
-A guard cannot be removed until the first four stones of the end are played.
-If a violation occurs, the guard is replaced to its original spot and the offending stone is removed.
-Note: This rule reflects the traditional four-rock format, regardless of Curling Canada's updates.
4. Player Eligibility & Spares
Each team must register four regular players, who may play any position.
Spare (substitute) players are allowed with the following restrictions:
-For their first two regular season games, spares may only throw lead or second stones.
-After two games, spares may play any position, including third or skip.
-In the playoffs, spares must have played at least two regular season games with the team to be eligible to play third or skip. Otherwise, they are limited to lead or second only.
5. Tie-Breakers
For regular season ties, a draw-to-the-button challenge is used:
-Each player throws one stone towards the house:
12 foot = 1 point
8 foot = 2 points
4 foot = 3 points
Touching the button = 4 points
Covering the button = 5 points
-No defensive sweeping is allowed.
-If still tied, skips each throw one stone: closest to the button wins.
In playoffs, tied games go to an extra end.
-Exception: If time is restricted by Callie Club Scheduling, skip stones may be used to decide the winner.
6. Governing Rules
All rules default to Curling Canada regulations unless otherwise specified above.

Code of Conduct
As a member of the Financial Curling League, participants are expected to adhere to a code of conduct that promotes a supportive and inclusive community. Any behavior deemed unsportsmanlike or disruptive will not be tolerated. We value integrity, teamwork, and friendship above all else in our league.
