Week 1 — Let the Curling Begin!

And just like that… we’re back on the ice! 🥌

The 2026–2027 Financial Curling League season officially got underway this morning, and Week 1 came with a little bit of everything — early starts, new faces, a cancellation, some victories, and plenty of curling to get us warmed up for another great season.

⏰ 9 AM?! Seriously?!

Yes, the alarm clocks went off a little earlier than usual this morning as games started at 9 AM instead of 10 AM.

Why? Because apparently curling isn’t the only important sport happening in Saskatchewan today! 🏈

With the Saskatchewan Roughriders taking on Montreal at 1 PM, we wanted everyone off the ice and on their way to cheer on the Green Riders.

The Riders need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive…

🚨 First Cancellation of the Season

Unfortunately, Day Breakers weren’t able to make the morning draw.

Speculation is already running rampant as to why. Was it the early start? A late Friday night? A sudden fear of sweeping? Perhaps we’ll never know. 😂

Whatever the reason, Mob Men and Day Breakers will arrange a makeup game at a later date.

👋 Welcome to the New Faces!

It was great to see Sheet Happens and Kings of Stone arrive at the rink with some new faces joining the league.

Whether they’re permanent members, substitutes, completely new to the sport, or old curling hats rediscovering their love for the game, it’s fantastic to see new people getting involved.

That’s what makes this league great — good competition, good people, and a chance to throw a few rocks while having some fun.

🏆 Week 1 Winners

Congratulations to Knights of Columbus and Drawing a Blank, who finished the day on the winning side of the scoreboard!

Now let’s hope their success on the curling ice carries over to the football field…

Because we’re going to need all the winning mojo we can get today!
